Monkey’s Journey – Mohammed Alfuwais – Final

After going through the waterfall and back, I, Monkey became king of the monkeys. All the monkeys bowed down to the me, the great king. I have given myself the title of “Handsome Monkey King” to show my greatness. I begin my reign over the monkeys by commanding them to different jobs and roles. A few hundred years passed, and we’re still living in harmony. Until one day, while eating I realized that one day i’d die, and i’d lose this perfect life. Fearing that, I decided that i’d go on an adventure to search for immortality.

Twenty years passed, and I have learned the ways of immortality. I taught my fellow disciples the way of immortality. After beating many enemies who were nothing before my strength, I have finally been recognized and invited to heaven by the Jade Emperor. However, during my time there, the people in heaven have done something that angered me. I, the immortal and king of monkeys had been appointed to become the “Pi-mo-wen”, which was a low rank. I should’ve been appointed to something of high rank and power, because I was no mere regular being. I am now back to living with my underlings. Until one day, two demon kings asked to see me. I thought nothing of them at first, however their words wasn’t what I expected. They called me by “The Great Sage, Equal of Heaven,” I had been baffled by this, but in the same time I expected that one day people would recognize me as the superior being.

A few days had gone by and one heavenly being came down to arrest me by the Jade Emperor’s command. I still held a grudge against the stupidity and disrespect of the heavenly deities. I, The Great Sage Equal of Heaven had a proposition for the weak deity that stands before me, I ordered him to tell the Jade Emperor to appoint me by the title of Great Sage which I deserve and I’d leave him at peace, or I will crush him and his palace. By my might and power I thought that the spirit would listen to my command, however he didn’t and he challenged me. I knew that this duel was not going to last a long time, as no one is stronger than the Great Sage himself. As expected the weakling could not stand my strength and was defeated.

Following this victory, many battles were soon to come. Many heavenly figures were sent to come arrest me but they were all nothing before my greatness. I was tired of having to deal with the weaklings that are sent here to arrest me, so I appointed many ogres to fight them. One heavenly being came again, but this time my underlings told me that he’d come to talk to me. I knew that this was going to be an offer again, and probably by the Spirit of the Planet Venus whom I entirely don’t dislike. He had told me that my powers was superior to the heavenly powers, so after the Jade Emperor’s acceptance, he had come down to give me the rank I had been wanting for. I openly accepted this and went off to heaven. Where they had finally given me a rank I deserve, a rank that is high and mighty. They had also given me a nice office next to the Peach Garden where I can finally rest in.

If you do not know what happened next in heaven, you must listen to what is told in the next entry.

  1. Your entry clearly progresses from beginning to end and you revealed Monkey’s feelings when he was unsatisfactory with his original rank. Overall your writing was good however I feel as though you could’ve adapted more to the style of Arthur Waley as you wrote your entry.
    Anyhow, great work.

  2. Your entry clearly expressed Monkey’s motivations and perspective. The style used is similar to that of the book but can be improved. I also noticed that some words are lowercased. Overall, you still did a good job of telling Monkey’s story and using the book’s style. Good job!

  3. It has a clear beginning middle and end, but I feel like you could’ve added a bit more details to make it more interesting and enjoyable to read.
