Kabli- Eastern Dragon Blog 3 – FINAL

Continued from https://fiveelementmountain.home.blog/2019/03/19/eastern-dragon-blog-2/

After the events recorded in my previous entry, the situation has escalated far beyond what it should have been. The Monkey whose pride knows no bounds has prepared his forces to do battle with heaven. The troubling matter about this is the fact that there appears to be a stalemate between the two armies. Neither side has pushed the other very far, and I fear the worst. I am conflicted as to what I should do. I fear the consequences of what would happen should the Monkey prevail over heaven, just as I fear what would happen should I not lend the heavenly troops my support. As the proverb says, “风无常顺,兵无常胜。(Fēng wú chángshùn, bīng wú chángshèng).” Wind isn’t always favorable; soldiers aren’t always victorious. Should the heavenly troops falter even in the slightest, it could lead to disaster for all. I sounded the gong to call my brothers to me so that we may hold a council. We decided that the best course of action would be to shape-shift so as to aid the heavenly army in battle. We would not reveal our identity to any of the troops, so that should the Monkey prevail we would not be put to blame.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My brothers and I set out to join the heavenly army to try and take down the Monkey. When we arrived at the battleground, we saw that the arrogant ape flew a banner which named himself the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. I saw red, and my brothers called to me.
“Calm yourself O’ brother. Was it not our plan to remain in secrecy while we lent our aid?”
“I am calm, just as a gentle spring breeze. I merely wish to pay my respects to the one who calls himself equal to heaven.”
“We can not allow that, else we risk the collapse of our plan.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It had been several days since my brothers and I joined into the battle against the blasphemous Monkey King, and we had aided the army in capturing many animals from the Monkey’s army. However, we were yet to capture a single monkey. Many of the soldiers began to lose morale. “人心齐,泰山移。(Rénxīn qí, Tàishān yí),” I told those soldiers around me. When people work with one heart, they can even move Mount Tai. Having boosted their morale, we set out to do battle once more with the monkeys, in hopes to bring their leader down. When we entered the battlefield, many soldiers began to fight, and many of them began to fall. I offered my aid where I could, and cut down every soldier of the Monkey’s army that I saw. However, one of the Monkey’s generals approached the area where I was fighting, and challenged me to do battle. I accepted his request, and was overwhelming him when one of his foot soldiers snuck up from behind me and dealt me a grave wound. I had no choice but to retreat, and to rest in order to regain my strength.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watched with unease as the Monkey King did battle with Natha, Vaisravana’s third son. It was truly an amazing fight, as both transformed into creatures of enormous size. Their battle shook the Earth, and tore the sky in twain. However, neither seemed to be able to get the upper hand, and I’m not quite sure if this fact was for better or worse. Anyhow, the devilish monkey transformed at the peak of their battle, and took out Natha. As Natha collapsed to the ground, my brothers and I fled to the Eastern Sea. If one of Vaisrvana’s own offspring could not match the Monkey King in might and power, what of us? So we swore to keep our role in the battle secret, and my brothers returned to their kingdoms. “祸从口出。 (Huò cóng kǒu chū),” from careless words arise disasters. We would not speak of our deeds to anyone, lest we be forced to face some dire consequences.
And if you do not know what happened after this, please await my next entry with all eagerness and patience. 揠苗助长. Be patient, and let nature run its course.
梅斯特先生,請給我一個好成績
  1. Throughout the entry you developed your character and revealed his (the dragon’s) very thouroughly. You also did a great job writing using Arthur Waley’s style. You followed his style by using some proverbs and making the entry sound like a tale. In all, the style of your writing was very similar to the author and you did an excellent job in developing your character.
    Great work.
  2. Your blog post was very entertaining and not the least bit boring or bland. I really like how the perspectives of all the characters you wrote about were easy to interpret and clearly implied. I would cut down a bit on the google translate though. Great job overall!
